| Okay, and finally, a date has been set for the screening of "Goodbye,
Sunset". It will be on May 14th, 7:00, at the Malco in
Corinth! Yay!
| | |
| Okay. Finally and officially, the DVD version of Goodbye, Sunset
and it's requisite big screen premier will happen in March. The
last of the reshoots will happen around the end of this month. To
say I'm excited would be to discredit excited people. All the CTA
stars, the bright lights, etc, etc........it shall be a most raucous
and rewarding time. Thanks again to all the actors......it is a
pleasure just to know all of you, and I cherish all our time together.
Secondly....
I have another script in the works. I have the male roles pretty
well in mind......which is actually the easy part, because this is a
female heavy script. I know mostly whom I want, and what I want
them for, however, the leads are going to be a challenge.
Actresses, you might NEVER get to play women like this again. All
the female parts are great, but the leads are - wow.....They are funny
and bawdy, wistful and sexy, crazy and cool, spiritual yet
sacreligious, sad and happy, edgy and soft. It is, or will be, an
incredible challenge. Their will be no human emotion that you
won't be called upon to act out. With luck, and I'm praying that
this happens, it will also feature the first female indie film director
in north Mississippi. I'm going to try to just work on writing and
acting in this one. I happen to know a very talented woman quite
well, and I believe it needs a female touch in direction. I'm in
love with this script. It's not the mobster movie i mentioned
earlier.......I think that will wait until next year - this is instead
another love story. Tentative title is "Angels Unaware".
The problem is, of course, is that when I say every human emotion, that
means EVERY human emotion. And a lot of people - very talented
people - have a problem with love scenes. Oddly, they have no
problem shooting or stabbing someone onscreen, only with loving
them. I am quite proud of the fact that in both Flaw and Sunset,
the love scenes came out exactly the way I wanted them.
Maybe when everyone sees Sunset, and sees the way those love scenes
play out, it will finally be realized that I never throw in a love
scene just for shits and giggles. In Flaw, I had to establish
early on that the women were lovers so I could move on with the
plot. In Sunset, although the characters become physical early,
nothing is really shown until close to the end, when the storyline has
them spending their last night together. In fact, until
that scene, Dan Marsh and Donna Baird have more onscreen kisses than
Rhianna and I do. I think. It's close, anyway.
Case in point: In Sunset, over three and a half minutes were
actually filmed of a rainy love scene. In the final cut, only
fifteen seconds of that is used. (I think everyone will agree
when they see it that it was very nicely done) My point in saying
all this is my sincere hope that the existence of a love scene instead
of a murder will stop becoming intimidating and will lead to more
actresses coming out to audition for Angels Unaware. I can hope,
anyway.
One last thought, from someone that's been there. Actually
filming a love scene sucks. Although it's supposed to look like,
after editing, that you're (obviously) having the time of your life, in
actuality, you're really thinking "I hope my breath is okay, I hope I
don't accidentally touch them in the wrong place, I hope my gut isn't
showing, I hope my hair looks okay and I hope that the stupid light rig
doesn't explode again. Oh, and, by the way, in spite of all these
worries and the fact that there is a room full of people, am I acting
like I love this person instead of simply pawing at them?" Trust
me on this one.
In any event, I really enjoyed Sylvia too. I thought the cast was
great. I'm biased toward the therapist, duh.

| From the home office in Kossuth, Mississippi......today's top ten list.
Top ten things learned or overheard at the cast party of "Sylvia".
10. One word: Parpissipation
9. Something may be either gay, gayass, gayful or gayish, but the opposite can only be "lesbianesque"
8. "Shut the fuck up"
7. When any disco song begins, someone will inevitably yell out
"Carwash!" This person will inevitably be Tresa Condra.
6. Simply because Tresa may yell out "Bootylicious!", it is NOT
an invite to begin shaking one's ass 18 inches from her face.
Trust me on this one.
5. The letters CCCP are NOT the cyrillic alphabet for USSR.
Instead it is a phonetic rendition of the phrase "See? See?
SEE? PEE!!!!"
4. Whenever all else fails, Linda Dixon and Dan Marsh should do interpretive dancing.
3. Never, ever EVER leave a Fraxedon party early. You will miss everyting that's going to happen.
2. In the middle of choreographing the dance to "Thriller"
someone will invariably yell out "Fosse! Fosse! Fosse!"
This person will be your beloved, leaving you to nurse your wounded
heterosexuality back to health.
1. Of all the milkshakes in all the world, Leslie Bivens' is
STILL the one that brings all the boys to the yard. Ax her.
Or Tresa.
Lastly........all the good stuff will, as always, remain under
wraps. What happens at the Fraxedon's stays at the
Fraxedon's. Wait until this year's Maggie Party. I have a
new game in mind. "Twister", but with shots. Hehe.
Hilarity WILL ensue.

| I owed this to myself. And to all those who cherish freedom.
I went back and read and watched on the internet Dr. King's "I Have A Dream" speech.
And as I went along, reading the text and listening to him, these are some of my reactions......
"No, no, we are not satisfied, and we will not be satisfied until
justice rolls down like waters, and righteousness like a mighty
stream"......first goosebumps
"And so even though we face the difficulties of today and
tomorrow, I still have a dream....it is a dream deeply rooted in
the American dream."...........first lump in my throat.
"I have a dream today that even in the state of Mississippi, a state
sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of
oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and
justice"......my eyes begin to burn.
"But not only that.......let freedom ring from Stone Mountain of
Georgia, let freedom ring from Lookout Mountain of Tennessee, let
freedom ring from EVERY hill and molehill of Mississippi, from EVERY
mountainside, let freedom ring"..........my body is swaying
subconsciously, tears are in my eyes, and even as a poor white boy from
aforementioned Tennessee, my mouth begins moving, because I know the
rest by heart.....
"And when this happens, when we allow freedom to ring, when we let it
ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every
city, we will be able to speed up that day when ALL of God's children,
black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics,
will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro
spiritual...........Free at last, free at last, thank God ALMIGHTY, we
are free at last."
Since I first got online, sometime in 97, I always either read the text or, here lately, also listen to it, on MLK day.
Never has it failed to utterly reduce me to tears, and God willing, it never will.
www.americanrhetoric.com/speeches/mlkihaveadream.htm
You owe it to yourself, I think, to hear it again.
You may certainly owe it to the world.
And never forget.....how one man, armed with only dignity and utter
conviction, changed the world, and left it a far better place than he
found it.
